Todd Newman
Vice President of Engineering
As the VP of Development & Engineering at Thayer Scale, Todd provided leadership and technical vision for mechanical, electrical, and software departments, focusing on edge device development for the food
and beverage markets. In this role, he implemented a 5-year IIoT and Industry 4.0 roadmap to transform
the company’s control instruments from isolated devices to edge computing PaaS, Remote Diagnostics,
and Predictive Maintenance. These activities required expanding the engineering and R&D teams by
50% with strategic talent recruitment. In this role, he also serves as the Weighing Sector Vice-
Chairperson of the National Conference Weights & Measures committee.
Before this, he led global engineering teams at Thermo Fisher Scientific as the Senior Engineering
Manager for the $450M Materials & Minerals business unit where he launched new products in FDA andhazardous area regulated environments, implemented critical to quality trees to reduce production
rework by 50%, and eliminated $2.5M redundant design costs by leveraging global workstreams. He has
held additional roles within Thermo Fisher Scientific ranging from project engineer to site engineering
manager. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
